Lifeline’s Big Book Fair is changing!

3 Oct 2012

Lifeline’s Big Book Fair is on again at the Illawarra Sports Stadium, Berkeley this Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 October and will continue to showcase one of the largest collections of books in the Illawarra.

More than 70,000 books will hit the tables at the event in a range of categories including fiction; non-fiction; reference; hobbies; travel; children’s books; art; science; literature; history; biographies; old, rare or just interesting. But this Fair, customers will be treated to some exciting new changes!

Our trading hours have been extended to 8am to 8pm on Friday and Saturday and 8am to 4pm on Sunday to allow our customers more opportunity to browse. In addition we have moved the children’s books into a second room allowing us to increase the size of our very popular fiction section in the main room.

But perhaps the biggest change is the opening of a “treasure hunt” room where unsorted books will be available at price points. Customers can “hunt” through these books in search of a treasure all the while helping us raise money for our suicide prevention work in the Illawarra and South Coast.

The business community has joined Lifeline South Coast in the Leaders for Suicide Prevention Book Drive and has collected books in their workplaces for this new unsorted section. Some of the organisations involved include Wollongong City Council, Peoplecare, Kells the Lawyers, University of Wollongong and the CRAM Foundation.

Lifeline South Coast Executive Director, Grahame Gould is excited to see the event growing.

“The Illawarra Sports Stadium is a great venue for our Book Fair. There is plenty of parking, a huge area for us to space the tables out in and a great atmosphere.”

“And we are so excited to have the support of so many organisations in our Leaders for Suicide Prevention Book Drive. Sadly, suicide is the leading cause of death for Australian’s under the age of 44 – we lose 6 Australians every day. At Lifeline, we believe suicide is preventable and we all have a role to play,” he said.

Lifeline’s Big Book Fair will be held on Friday 5th, Saturday 6th October between 8am and 8pm and Sunday 7th October between 8am and 4pm at the Illawarra Sports Stadium, Berkeley. Entry to the event is via gold coin donation and eftpos will be available.

Lifeline’s Big Book Fair is the major fundraising event for Lifeline South Coast. Funds raised at the Fair go toward supporting Lifeline services in the Illawarra and South Coast.

Lifeline South Coast is a local service, which means that the funds raised locally stay here in our community and are used to help local people talk about their problems and find ways to solve them.

Each year, Lifeline South Coast receives 14,000 calls from people in the Illawarra and South Coast.
