Psychological First Aid

Psychological first aid is a humane, supportive and practical response to an individual who is in distress and in need of support.

Description

Delivery: 3.5 hours via face-to-face classroom

Audience: Anyone, 18 years +

Just as medical first aid is applied to those facing physical trauma, Psychological First Aid (PFA) offers an immediate response to the psychological distress of those experiencing crisis.

PFA aims to:

• Reduce the initial distress

• Foster short- and long-term adaptive functioning

• Minimise the risk of further harm

Psychological First Aid is appropriate in any scenario where someone has been recently exposed to a highly distressing event. PFA can be applied to both children and adults, and to all cultural backgrounds.
